Mission Statement
About us |
It is our third year being part of Girls Build and we continue to work towards the same goal. Girls who want to ensure our school is more conscious about recycling and sustainability. It is important that we properly dispose of everything that is recyclable and we educate our peers about ways to be less harmful to the environment. This project is needed because our school does not have recycling bins around campus to properly dispose of aluminum cans and plastic bottles. We also encourage students to use reusable water bottles by raffling some out every year. The past 2 years we worked towards getting water refill stations at our campus and it has been approved and paid, and hopefully this semester they begin the demolition process to install them.

A good way of expanding beyond the walls of our school is by presenting about the issue and educating the community through parent workshops and meetings. Inviting parents to also be part of the challenge would help the community be more informed about issues in the environment. This year we ensured that all advisory classrooms received a presentation about plastic pollution making ALL Synergy Quantum students informed about the facts about plastic. We made interactive presentations to ensure all students were able to participate and take something away from the lesson.
Developing our community
The team plans on solving the issue of disposing of recyclable items inappropriately by educating students, staff, and other community members about the importance of recycling and how that can help the earth in the long run. Besides informing and educating our community, we have already placed 5 more recycling bins around campus specifically for aluminum and plastics since they are the most commonly used at our school. This aligns with our impact area of civic engagement because we are advocating for our community to live a more sustainable lifestyle to positively help our environment and those living in it. We have also advocated for water refill stations and we were able to get approved for 2 on campus, now we are waiting on LAUSD to begin the demolition process.
